SUMMARY:Buckthorn Roundup - October 15th\, MB Johnson Park
DESCRIPTION:Join us on October 15 at MB Johnson Park in Moorhead for a Buckthorn Management Event!\nMB Johnson Park is one of the largest city parks in the Red River Valley. In addition to its wide open recreational areas\, the park features miles of scenic trails along the Red River and adjacent Snakey Creek. Unfortunately\, it has also become home to the invasive shrub known as Common Buckthorn (Rhamnus cathartica). \n \nThe City of Moorhead Forestry Department is teaming up with volunteers to remove this aggressive plant. This ongoing effort will take time and a lot of help\, but with persistence\, we can reduce buckthorn’s chokehold on the riparian forests of the Red River Valley. \nWe’ll be meeting near the playground at MB Johnson at 4:00 PM. Please wear protective clothing and sturdy shoes\, as well as a good pair of gloves to shield yourself from the plant’s thorns. \nMid-October is an ideal time to tackle buckthorn\, as it is one of the last plants to drop its leaves. Its glossy\, oval\, dark green leaves stand out when most other plants have already changed color or shed their leaves\, making buckthorn easier to spot. Once you’ve seen it\, you won’t forget it. \nRSVP if you can join us for this important event! \n  \n

SUMMARY:Drum Flow Session-Going Public- June 18th
DESCRIPTION:OUTDOOR SESSION\nWelcome to our first outdoor\, and public session. We will be meeting at Island Park in the stone circle where Broadway meets 1st Ave. South. \nA team of supporters have been workshopping these sessions for several months. We are  looking forward to introducing this experience to others. Drum Flow Sessions are a great way to enter a shared rhythm\, ride and participate in waves of sound\, integrate the body in the moment\, rest\, and restore. We have recently introduced these sessions to veterans where feet are tapping\, and heads are swinging to spontaneous\, creatively shared music. We are always looking to build on our team of volunteers and session facilitators as we work to share this experience with others. We have a few recommendations for those coming to participate in our first public event. \n\nNo apologies.\nIf you join us\, please stay with us through the wrap-up at 7pm.\nPlease are for the equipment.\nPlease care  for other’s space.\nTry to listen as much as you play!\n\n

SUMMARY:Drum Flow Session- Workshop Crew- June 4th
DESCRIPTION:NEWS\nWe had our second official session at the VA last week. It was well attended with plenty of  foot tapping\, smiles\, and laughter. Mandi and Julie are bringing great energy and guidance. They are helping me see that this project has a positive future. We want to keep building a team of DFS facilitators in order to insure sessions at the VA take root and flourish. \nJUNE 4th- Workshop Session\nWe will meet again on June 4th so please RSVP if you can join us. \nGOING PUBLIC\nWe will be hosting our first public session on June 18th! Plan on spreading our sound from nearby Island Park. \nPublic events will involve tickets and I will discuss this in more detail at the June 4th session. We are working to produce some brochures and business cards. Please help spread the word for our first public event and future events. Be sure to pick up some cards on the 4th or sooner! \nT-SHIRT Advisor?\nLastly\, I would still love to make a run of t-shirts for facilitators. I did some research but the recommendation for this design was to try printing vs silk screening (too complex). Please let me know if you have experience with this kind of t-shirt printing and/or may know of a place to get this done. \nSee you soon!

SUMMARY:Drum Flow Session- May 22nd - WEDNESDAY\, MB Johnson Park
DESCRIPTION:OFFICIAL LAUNCH\nOn March 22nd we will be taking Drum Flow Sessions public.  Please RSVP to help with this event! \nOur sessions have traditionally been on Tuesday nights. However\, on May 22nd we will host our Drum Flow Session on a Wednesday evening. Red River Health is working in collaboration with several specialists in the field of Land Restoration for an event on the evening of Wednesday\, May 22nd.  The event will start out with a gathering at MB Johnson Park in Moorhead at 4:30 pm. Volunteers will be introduced to the invasive species Buckthorn and learn about its impact on the native forests of our area\, After an introductory tour\, volunteers will be invited to help manage this species by pulling buckthorn from the forests. This will be followed up with a BBQl and our first public Drum Flow Session. \nVolunteers:\nPlease consider volunteering for this event. We will need support from several participants of our current sessions for this event to be a success! First we will need to transport or collection of percussion equipment to the park around 3:45. Second\, we will need a volunteer to keep the equipment secure during the land management phase of the event. Finally\, we will need facilitators available to introduce people to the equipment and facilitate a session. Please RSVP if you will be able to attend and email me if you will be able to help with any of these challenges. Deep gratitude to  you all for helping get our sessions this far. \n

SUMMARY:Drum Flow Session- May 7th
DESCRIPTION:NEWS\nRhythms are rising at the VA. \nThanks to the volunteer dedication of Julie and Mandi\, who booth kindly took a day off work\, we are spreading rhythms at the VA!  The VA hosted a Whole Health event introducing the variety of complimentary care options they offer vets. Our team provided two quick\, but lively Drum Flow Sessions. Vets reported feeling a reduction in pain\, a quieting of anxiety\, feelings of community\, an awakening of creativity\, and a return to a long forgotten  childlike wonder.  Feet were tapping and smiles were shared and laughter flowed. Good medicine! \nIf you know of someone who might be interested in volunteering to facilitate these sessions\, or others like them\, please invite them to our May 7th  gathering at 824 Main! \nContributions:\nThese events are made possible through your donations. All contributions will go towards supporting this project\, our extension Drum Flow Sessions at the VA\, our event space\, and all of our necessary equipment. Use this link or the QR code below to contribute. We are also enthusiastically welcoming donated drums and/our other percussion equipment. Thank you! \nIn additional to financial contributions\, there are other ways people can help our project. For example\, some people will be donating their time as facilitators at the VA during our Drum Flow Sessions. Others are bringing instruments\, inviting friends and taking the lead on managing sessions. Thanks to all of you for your enthusiasm and engagement.

SUMMARY:Alchemy of Aging - April 18th
DESCRIPTION:Alchemy for Aging:\nAging is complicated. So many things change; there is so much to accept and times that accepting does not feel bearable. There are things to let go of that are difficult to part with. There is grief. In this session of Alchemy for Aging\, we are going to settle into a safe container to discuss complexities of acceptance and letting go. We will also gather some tools for embracing this time as empowering and enlivening. \nThursday evenings from 6 – 7:30\nThe Dojo (third floor)\n824 Main Ave\, Fargo\nDrop in fee: $20 per class\n\n\nIn this nurturing and supportive environment\, we will explore various holistic wellness topics aimed at enhancing overall well-being. From breathwork and meditation to gentle yoga flows\, each session will be crafted to share and gather wisdom\, engage in movement\, and learn sustainable practices for aging well.\n\n\nPlease email Jaclyn Weber if you have any questions about the event. Please email Red River Health with questions about online registration.

SUMMARY:Clean the Stream Event
DESCRIPTION:A plastic bottle like the one in this image will take over 400 years to degrade. A bur oak tree (one of the keystone plant species of our local forests) can live over 400 years. I often wonder which of these two is more likely to be our legacy 400 years from now. If we can so something about it\, shouldn’t we?\nI spend many hours with my dog Buck walking the parks along the Red River. Most days we bring home a backpack full of debris. Stay tuned as I develop plans for a clean up sponsored by Red River Health. Each time the Red River rises and falls she leaves bags full of trash along her shores. Plenty of work for all of us! \nThe date listed here is tentative.
